EARLY NATIVE COMMUNITIES AROUND THE AREA OF CHARTRES:
Hundreds of years before the birth of Christ, when tribes farmed the land around Chartres, there was no country which could be called France.
At that time, the land was settled by small farming communities. Fighting between rival groups over territory was common, but there was no concept of `empire building' among these peoples. The area around Chartres would certainly have been covered with thick forest, parts of which would be cleared for cultivation using simple tools.
